The Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) – Military Division is awarded to members of the Australian Defence Force for distinguished service of a high degree in positions of great responsibility. It recognises leadership, innovation, and commitment in operational or strategic military roles.
The insignia is a gold-plated, flat disc shaped like a stylised wattle blossom. The centre features a blue enamel ring with the word “AUSTRALIA” surrounding a golden wattle motif. It is surmounted by the Crown of St Edward. Military Division awards include a bar with crossed swords. Replicas are marked with the word “COPY”.
The ribbon is royal blue with a central gold band and yellow edges. The yellow edges signify a military award and distinguish it from the civil version.
The AO – Military Division symbolises exceptional military service and leadership that advances Australia's defence capability and operational effectiveness.
