The Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Military Division is a prestigious honour that recognises the exceptional service and dedication of individuals within the Australian Defence Force. This esteemed award is conferred by the Governor-General of Australia on the recommendation of the Council for the Order of Australia. It serves to acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by military personnel in various capacities, from leadership and innovation to courage and commitment.
Design
The central design element of the Order is a mimosa flower head, fashioned into a convex disc. This motif serves as the base design for all categories of the Order of Australia awards, including the corresponding medals and lapel pins. The design is uniform for both the General and Military Divisions, without any distinguishing features between them. The central insignia is inscribed with the word "Australia", accompanied by two sprigs of mimosa leaves. The suspender of the medal is fashioned as the Crown of St Edward in full colour.
Ribbon
The ribbon is designed with a royal blue backdrop, embellished with a central band featuring gold mimosa blossoms. The Military division of the AM is distinguished by gold borders on the ribbon. It measures 38 millimetres in width for the full-sized version.
Lapel Pin
The AM is represented with a lapel pin for day to day use. Click here for more information: AM Lapel Pin.
