The Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was awarded to recognise 15 years of exemplary service by non-commissioned officers and airmen of the Royal Air Force. The George VI version was issued from 1937 to 1952 and is identifiable by the King’s effigy on the obverse.
Awarded to non-commissioned officers and airmen who completed a minimum of 15 years of service with an unblemished record. Wartime service counted as double towards the qualifying period. The medal could be forfeited for disciplinary reasons.
The circular silver medal features on the obverse the crowned effigy of King George VI with the inscription GEORGIVS VI BRITT: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP:. The reverse depicts the Royal Air Force eagle in flight beneath a Tudor Crown, surrounded by the inscription FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT. The medal is suspended from an ornate scroll-type suspender.
The ribbon is dark blue with a central crimson stripe flanked by narrow white edges, symbolising the colours of the Royal Air Force and the values of service and discipline.
