The Royal Naval Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was awarded to recognise long and efficient service by members of the Royal Naval Reserve. The George VI version was issued from 1937 to 1952 and features the King’s effigy on the obverse.
Awarded to ratings and non-commissioned officers of the Royal Naval Reserve who completed at least 15 years of efficient service with an unblemished record. Wartime service counted as double towards the qualifying period.
The circular silver medal features the crowned effigy of King George VI on the obverse, surrounded by the inscription GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX ET INDIAE IMP: (earlier issues) or GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D: (later issues). The reverse depicts a three-masted sailing ship in full sail, surrounded by the inscription FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT.
The ribbon is green with narrow white stripes at each edge, representing the maritime tradition of the Royal Naval Reserve.
