The Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is awarded to recognise 15 years of exemplary service by non-commissioned officers and airmen of the Royal Air Force. The Elizabeth II version, issued from 1952 onwards, bears the Queen’s effigy on the obverse and continues the tradition of acknowledging loyalty, dedication, and discipline within the service.
Awarded to non-commissioned officers and airmen who have completed a minimum of 15 years of service with an unblemished record. Wartime service, where applicable, was counted as double towards the qualifying period. The award could be forfeited for disciplinary reasons.
The circular silver medal features the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse with the inscription ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.. The reverse depicts the Royal Air Force eagle in flight beneath a Tudor Crown, surrounded by the inscription FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT. The medal is suspended from an ornate scroll-type suspender.
The ribbon is dark blue with a central crimson stripe flanked by narrow white edges, representing the colours of the Royal Air Force and the values of service and discipline.
