The Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division is a distinguished accolade that celebrates the extraordinary contributions and dedication of members within the Australian community. Bestowed by the Governor-General of Australia, based on recommendations from the Council for the Order of Australia, the award recognises exemplary achievements in various roles, including leadership, innovation, bravery, and dedication.
The central design element of the Order is a mimosa flower head, fashioned into a convex disc. This motif serves as the base design for all categories of the Order of Australia awards, including the corresponding medals and lapel pins. The design is uniform for both the General and Military Divisions, without any distinguishing features between them. The central insignia is inscribed with the word "Australia", accompanied by two sprigs of mimosa leaves. The suspender of the medal is fashioned as the Crown of St Edward in full colour.
The ribbon is designed with a royal blue backdrop, embellished with a central band featuring gold mimosa blossoms. The ribbon intended for the Member of the Order measures 38 millimetres in width for the full-sized version.
