The Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) – Civil Division is awarded for eminent achievement and merit of the highest degree in service to Australia or humanity at large. It recognises individuals who have made extraordinary contributions across fields such as public service, science, law, health, business, and the arts.
The insignia is a gold, convex disc designed as a stylised wattle blossom with radiating gold clusters. At its centre is a blue enamel ring inscribed with the word “AUSTRALIA”, surrounding a smaller golden disc with a wattle design. It is surmounted by the Crown of St Edward. Replicas are marked with the word “COPY”.
The ribbon is royal blue with a central pattern of gold wattle blossoms. Unlike the military version, it has no yellow edges, indicating a civilian award.
The AC – Civil Division represents the highest level of recognition for outstanding service to the nation. It honours individuals whose work has had a lasting national or global impact.
