The Military Cross (MC) under King George V was awarded to commissioned officers of the British and Commonwealth armed forces for acts of exemplary gallantry during active operations against the enemy on land. It was introduced in 1914 during World War I and later extended to include other ranks.
The medal is a silver cross with straight arms. The obverse bears the royal cypher “GvR” (George V Rex) in the centre, surrounded by the Imperial Crown on each arm. The reverse is plain and engraved with the recipient’s details. Replicas are marked with the word “COPY”. It is suspended from a plain silver bar.
The ribbon is plain white with a central deep purple stripe. The colour scheme symbolises bravery and duty under fire.
The Military Cross GV recognises frontline gallantry in the harshest conditions. It stands as a symbol of courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment to mission and comrades during war.
