Description

The Silver Jubilee Medal 1977 is a significant British commemorative medal. It was created to mark the 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne. The medal serves as recognition of dedicated public service and personal service to the monarch.

Eligibility for the Silver Jubilee Medal 1977 includes the following:

  • Service in key positions in public service or government, including members of the Armed Forces, police, prison service, and certain other public, civil, or emergency services
  • Having been a holder of the Victoria Cross or the George Cross
  • Having been made a peer or a knight bachelor

The medal, 32 millimeters in diameter, is made of cupronickel. The obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the St Edward's Crown and the inscription 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FID. DEF.'. The reverse bears the inscription "THE 25TH YEAR OF THE REIGN OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II 6 FEBRUARY 1977". The inscription is circled with a crowned wreath.

The accompanying ribbon, 32 millimeters wide, features a central line of blue bisected with a thin red stripe. The blue is bordered with white, and red on the edges.
