The India Medal (1895–1902) was awarded to British and Indian Army personnel who served in various campaigns on the North-West Frontier and surrounding areas during this period. It succeeded the India General Service Medal (1854) and was issued for a series of defined operations.
The medal is circular and made of silver. The obverse features the diademed effigy of Queen Victoria with the inscription “VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX”. The reverse shows British and Indian soldiers together, advancing with bayonets fixed, and the word “INDIA” inscribed below. Recipient details are engraved on the rim. Replicas are marked with the word “COPY”.
The ribbon is red with two dark blue stripes. These colours symbolise the British Army and the long-standing tradition of service in India.
