The Champion Shots Medal was introduced in 1988 to recognise skill in small arms marksmanship within the Australian Defence Force. It is awarded annually to the winners of the Champion Shots competitions for the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force.
Awarded to the top marksmen in the Service Champion Shots competitions for each branch of the Australian Defence Force. Only one medal is awarded to each winner, but recipients may earn bars to be attached to the ribbon for subsequent awards.
The bronze medal is circular and surmounted by a Crown. The obverse features two crossed rifles surrounded by a wreath of laurel, with the Southern Cross positioned between the rifle barrels. The reverse is inscribed with the words CHAMPION SHOTS MEDAL and AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE around the edge.
The ribbon has a central dark blue stripe flanked by narrow red stripes, with light blue edges. The colours represent the Royal Australian Navy (dark blue), Australian Army (red), and Royal Australian Air Force (light blue).
