The Iraq Medal was awarded to British Armed Forces personnel who served in Iraq or supported Operation TELIC between 2003 and 2011. Eligibility depended on role and location, with qualifying service ranging from 7 to 30 continuous or accumulated days in designated areas of operations.
The medal is circular and made of cupro-nickel. The obverse features the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse shows an outline of Iraq with the word “IRAQ” and a sunburst symbol. It is engraved with the recipient’s details on the rim. Clasps were issued for specific service periods. Replicas are marked with the word “COPY”.
The ribbon has a sand-coloured base with central stripes of light blue, dark blue, and red. These colours represent the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, and British Army, respectively, and reflect joint operations in the region.
The Iraq Medal – Operation TELIC honours service during a major British military campaign. It represents commitment, cooperation, and duty in complex and often hostile environments.
