Established in 1986, this medal serves to acknowledge the outstanding achievements and commitment of police officers throughout Australia.
Eligibility for the Australian Police Medal requires the following:
The medal, with a diameter of 38 millimeters, is made of silver. The obverse side features the Federation Star overlayed with the Sovereign effigy, over a pattern of fluted rays. The reverse side carries the inscription "AUSTRALIAN POLICE MEDAL FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE", surrounded with a wreath of wattle. Copies are engraved with "REPLICA".
The accompanying ribbon, 32 millimeters wide, consists of equal-sized vertical stripes of white on the edges, and dark blue in the centre.
