Description

The 1914-1915 Star is an Imperial campaign medal that was awarded to British and Imperial forces who served in France and Belgium during the early stages of World War I, from August 1914 to December 1915. The medal was established in 1918 and was often referred to as the "Mons Star," as it was first awarded to troops who fought in the Battle of Mons.

Design

The medal features a bronze four-pointed star. The obverse of the medal has crossed swords overlayed with a wreath, and a ribbon bearing the dates "1914-15". At the base of the wreath are the initials "GV". The reverse is plain, traditionally engraved with the recipient's name and service number.

Ribbon

The ribbon of the medal has gradient vertical stripes of red, white, and blue.

The 1914-1915 Star is a symbol of the sacrifice and bravery of those who served in the early stages of World War I. It represents the courage and determination of the troops who fought in some of the most significant battles of the war, including the Battle of Mons, the Battle of the Marne, and the Battle of Loos. The medal is a reminder of the sacrifices made by the soldiers who fought and died during this challenging period in history, and it is a testament to the bravery and dedication of the British and Imperial forces who served in France and Belgium during this time.
