The Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) – Civil Division is awarded to individuals for a prominent national or regional role in any field. It recognises sustained and significant contributions to public service, the arts, sciences, charity, or community leadership.
The medal is a cross patonce in silver-gilt, with pale blue enamel and a central circular medallion featuring the effigy of the reigning monarch. The reverse bears the royal cypher and the Order’s motto, “For God and the Empire”. It is suspended from a ring and worn on the civil division ribbon. Replicas are marked with the word “COPY”.
The ribbon is rose pink with narrow pearl grey edges. It does not include the central stripe found on the military division ribbon. The colours reflect honour, service, and commitment to the community.
The CBE – Civil Division honours those whose work has had a lasting impact in their profession or society. It reflects leadership, excellence, and dedication in non-military public life.
